Retainer & Appliance Wear and Care Instructions
|
|
Retainer Instructions for wear and care of a retainer are the same as the wear and care of an orthodontic appliance as described below, except you do not wear the retainer while eating. Store the retainer in its carry case. NEVER, NEVER place the retainer in a napkin anywhere or in pocket of tight jeans for that matter. Keep out in front of you in you don't have the case to put it in. Orthodonic Appliance A word from The Super Sagittal Smiler Dear orthodontic appliance owner, Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of ME. I'm a Sagittal Appliance. Just like regular braces, it will take time to adjust to me, so please be patient - the end result will be worth it. First of all, let me say that I am no food! You know that but your brain doesn't. At first, your mouth will produce a lot of saliva because your brain thinks I am food in your mouth. It will soon learn that I am not food, and you won't have to slurp as much. Even though I was custom made just for you, there may be a spot or two that causes an irritation. When you come back to see your orthodontist the next few times, he will take care of these areas that bother you. In order for me to do my job well, I must be worn all the time - even when you eat and sleep. Your may need to eat softer foods at first, to feel right chewing with me in your mouth. I'm real sure you can do it. And, of course, please take me out when you play contact sports or when you clean me. At first, you may talk a little funny, but this will improve as you wear me. Reading out loud with me in place will help you talk clearly in a short time Dr. Cass has probably asked you to turn my hinges a certain way every few days. Please don't over-do it and make me dizzy. Turn once on Sunday and once on Wednesday. Keep me clean! You can brush me with toothpaste, and you can bathe me occasionally in mouthwash or a denture cleaner. Never use hot water on me! Remember that it took a long time to make me, so please be careful with me! When I'm not in your mouth, (I hope it's not for long) it's best to keep me in my case. Many of my friends have been thrown away after being wrapped up in a napkin or eaten by a pet. Dogs love us. I must apologize for one thing. I might make your teeth a little sore for a few days because they are starting to move. If they don't feel better after three days, please let your doctor know. Treat me well, and I will work really hard to fix your teeth and help your jaws grow the way they should. This message has been brought to you buy your . . . Super Sagittal Smiler |
